MyWhitchurch is launching a new Shops Review mini-site for all the shops, services and businesses in Whitchurch and the surrounding area. Find out all the information inside or visit http://shops.mywhitchurch.co.uk

http://shops.mywhitchurch.co.uk

Over the past year MyWhitchurch has been a lot more “hyper local”. Hyperlocal is a bit of a media buzz word but it has a meaning behind it and that meaning is really at the core of a site like this.
It’s all about what is happening right here, on your doorstep.
Seeing as Whitchurch has one of the biggest and busiest shopping areas outside the city centre I thought it would be a great idea to provide a review and rating platform for all the shops and services in Whitchurch.

It’s taken nearly 10 months to put together but hopefully the result is something that the public can easily use and the traders can also see what is going on.

The site is not limited to shops just in Whitchurch but the surrounding areas of Llandaff North, Rhiwbina, Tongwynlais, Birchgrove and anything else of relevance in Cardiff North.

The idea behind the concept is simple. Imagine a shop/cafe/bar had a very nagative element – maybe a member of staff or perhaps it’s simply dirty or the products are not up to scratch. Unless someone tells the owner they might never know.

How does it work?

Anyone can submit a review on a shop or service. It could be the post office, local pub or your window cleaner. It might be based on a single experience or 20 years of regular service. Your review should include as much detail as possible and you can do this all anonymously or you can have a registered account if you’d like to put your name or nick-name to your review or if you’re likely to submit more reviews in the future.
Only the first review for each trader is accepted. If people feel the review is unfair then they can rate the review out of 10 with a single click. Should the review not reflect an accurate picture of the business after time, it may be replaced with a different one.
If anyone wants to add a comment on a review or perhaps to question the review then they can do so. Each comment can also be rated with a single click, giving it the ‘thumbs up’ or ‘thumbs down’.

What are the rules?

Be honest. Behave.

If a trader is posing as a member of the public to boost their image or their ratings then it will soon be spotted and removed. Traders do have the option of paying for a business listing where they can write their own description of the business and include their own photos if they wish and they can respond to comments in an official capacity.

Anyone who’s comments could be offensive or bullying or trolling will not be tolerated.

To visit the site just click here:

Two new shops opened last week in the village and it's all about the girls...

Two new shops have opened up in the past week both offering ladies fashion. Rielle and Perfection Prom Dresses are new stores on Merthyr Road and it’s fantastic to see two privately owned new businesses in our great shopping village.

Rielle only opened it’s doors last Wednesday and offers female fashion for all ages. Owner Teresa Marsh is very proud to tell me the dearest item in the shop is £30 and really wants to bring a buzz to the village so that women can shop for their clothes without going into town. They are very keen to hear what people want so please go in for a look around and tell the staff what you think and what you would like to see. Already customers have asked for handbags, scarves and clothes for the larger ladies and this is exactly what they have done.

Inside Rielle

Over the road is Perfection - a Prom and Evening Dress shop which opened last Tuesday. Mandy Leaman who runs the shop says there is more to formal dresses than the summer/prom season. They have a selection of celebrity designer dresses as well and matching jewellery.

New Prom Dress Shop - Perfection!

It’s great to see people starting their own business and even better to have two less vacant shops in the village. I just hope it lasts for both of them.

Please go and pay them a visit and let them know what you think.

Tom Thumbs - New shop in the village offering traditional sweets and fancy dress

A new traditional sweets and fancy dress shop opened it’s doors for the first time on Saturday in the heart of Whitchurch Village. Tom Thumbs, named after the flavoured pips and the Tom Thumb character from old tale books has had many people among the village talking about when it would open and what sweets it would sell.
There are over 150 different types of traditional sweets all making their home in the jars on many many shelves. Shop owner and local Whitchurch resident Tom Champ says the idea for the shop was always sat at the back of his mind and it was only when he noticed a few vacant shops in the village that he decided to put the idea into motion. Alongside the sweets is a fancy dress section where you can buy costumes for adults and kids plus decorations and accessories for any party or night out.

So far everyone has commented on how much they love the look of the shop and how impressed they are with the amount of sweets on offer and all of the local traders have shown their support also.
Look out for some Halloween fancydress and sweets coming very shortly and as Christmas approaches they will have a Santa’s Grotto in the shop as well.

And if you have never met me and wanted to put a face to the name then you can come and say hi to me in the shop because I will be working their fulltime.

Tom Thumbs Sweets & Fancy Dress is open 8am until 5pm Monday to Friday, 9am til 5pm Saturdays and 10am til 1pm on Sundays.
You can visit the website here or become a fan on the facebook page.

Local business man, Dilwar Ali has set a fantastic example with his massive support for George Thomas Hospice Care which is the major provider of specialist community palliative care for Cardiff and presently receiving twelve new referrals a week for its service.

Local business man, Dilwar Ali has set a fantastic example with his massive support for George Thomas Hospice Care which is the major provider of specialist community palliative care for Cardiff and presently receiving twelve new referrals a week for its service.

Dilwar Ali whose runs the family business “Nahin Spice Centre” on Caerphilly Road is offering the local hospice with 5,000 Meal Deal voucher (starter, main dish, rice and naan) £9.95 and for every voucher that is redeemed by the public, the hospice will receive £3.95.

The meal deal vouchers will be available at Tŷ George Thomas the hospice centre, its six charity shops, at its future fundraising events and “Nahin” is a new style of Indian takeaway. You pick up chilled Indian ready meals with heating instruction for oven and microwaves, a great idea, as you can collect the food from Nahin Spice Centre, 314 Caerphilly Road, Heath, Cardiff, CF14 4NT, earlier in the day and heat it when you are ready to eat.

Margaret Pritchard the Chief Executive of George Thomas Hospice Care said “We are delighted to receive this most valuable support from Mr Ali at times when all charities are facing more and more difficulties over fundraising. Schemes like this are very welcome and we hope the public and our local community will give it good support”

Dilwar Ali said “I believe that the best way of fundraising is to eat!!! And I also urge the public to take part in supporting the George Thomas Hospice Care”

You can download and print off the voucher here: Nahin Spice Voucher (PDF format)
