Whitchurch Christmas Lights will be switched on this Wednesday evening from 6.30pm with Merthyr Road closed during the event.
Come along for family fun featuring rides, fireworks, live music and of course the big switch on at this annual Free event organised by George Lazarou (Lord Laz as I call him)

Cardiff Neighbourhood Watch Launch

Neighbourhood Watch in Cardiff is changing for the better. Cardiff West NHW Association has recently changed to South Wales Neighbourhood Watch, Cardiff which now covers all areas of the Capital.

To celebrate this change, there is a Launch Event happening right here in Whitchurch on Thursday November 17th at Whitchurch Community Centre in the hope of gaining new members and new Watchgroups.

There are many active Watches in Cardiff but there are equally some groups that are in decline and at risk of becoming dormant.
With the support of South Wales Police and National Neighbourhood Watch it is hoped that residents all over the city can work together on a street by street basis and look after each other and the surrounding properties.

The launch event is open from 3pm until 7pm and anyone can drop in during these times for a friendly chat and see why Neighbourhood Watch is so important and what they can do to make sure they get the maximum benefit for their street. People can come and talk to current NHW Co-ordinators, PCSO’s and officers from all over Cardiff and representitives from National Neighbourhood Watch.

To coincide with this event, a new website has been launched for the association: www.cardiffnhw.org.uk with the aims of helping existing NHW groups and to provide a platform for anyone interesting in joining a Watch group or if none currently exists in the area, starting up a new one.
Bringing Cardiff NHW into the 21st century they are embracing social media with a facebook page and a twitter account which should help keep members communicating on a frequent basis.

Sunday June 26th

Youth & Organisations Parade from Library Park to Bethal Batist Church.Parade leaves approx 10am and returns from the legion car park at 11.30am

Monday June 27th

Festival Story Time, Whitchurch Library at 10.45am and 2.15pm

Schools Concert, Bethal Baptist Church. Admission £3, kids free. Starts at 6.30pm

Tuesday June 28th

Tea Dance, British Legion. 2pm until 4.30pm. Admission £1.50

Sports on the Common. 6.30pm weather permitting. Raffles, Refreshments, Ice Cream

Wednesday June 29th

Car Treasure Hunt. Main Car park, british legion from 7pm. £4 per car.

Nature Walk. Meet at the Water Wheel, Ty Mawr Road at 6.30pm. Approx 2 hours. Free event.

Thursday June 30th

Tennis Evening, 6pm Whitchurch Tennis Club, St Francis Rd

Grand Concert, St Marys Church. Admission £3. Doors open 6.45pm for 7.30pm start.

Saturday July 2nd

The Great Duck Race from Warren Evans Court to the Three Elms. Starts at 7pm in aid of L.A.T.C.H. Welsh Childrens Cancer Charity. 500 Ducks on sale from Phil Parker or Mark Jones. £1 per duck!

Saturday July 9th

Carnival & Fete on the Common – Parade leaves Whitchurch Hospital at 1pm featuring Marching bands and local group floats, classic cars etc.

Fancy a chat?

This afternoon representatives from Bethel Baptist Church in Whitchurch have plonked a bright red sofa on Merthyr Road for one reason only…..For anyone to come and have a chat…about anything they like.

It might seem a little crazy at first but this is one strategy Bethel are trying to get the message out that they are not all about going to church every sunday morning.
You can literally go and have a chin wag about anything you like. No pressure, and no commitment. I’m sure you could pick up a coffee from Deli-a-go-go aswell
